Advise NC at App State
Advise NC at Appalachian State places well-trained, recent college graduates to serve as full-time Next Step Advisers in high schools throughout western North Carolina. Advisers work to ensure that all seniors are empowered to make informed decisions about their lives after high school. They collaborate with administrators, support staff, and teachers to support students as they develop their Next Step Plans and prepare to complete one of the three Es – Enrollment, Employment, or Enlistment – following graduation.

Appalachian State University: Public Health Innovation Corps
ASU Public Health AmeriCorps aims to recruit, train, and develop new generations of public health leaders ready to respond to public health needs through public health service and capacity building in North Carolina’s rural Appalachian communities. AmeriCorps members who will lead the dissemination and implementation of Psychological First Aid (PFA) interventions to communities, organizations, and professionals, recruit and retain Medical Reserve Corps Members to implement and sustain the PFA interventions; and deliver pre and post emergency/trauma RAPID-PFA interventions to organizations.

AmeriCorps members provide arts education to vulnerable student populations in Title I schools in central North Carolina. Members facilitate arts education as Resident Teaching Artists to English Language Learners, students of color, and Military and Veteran children with a goal of improved academic engagement and achievement and increased artistic and social-emotional learning skills.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina: Project MARS
AmeriCorps members serve as School Engagement Coordinators, serving in schools all day as mentors; recruiting, supporting and guiding mentors; and providing one on one and small group academic assistance and resource coordination.

Children First/Communities in Schools of Buncombe County: Project POWER
AmeriCorps members serve as Academic Enrichment Specialists or Community Resource Specialists to support student success both in and out of the classroom. Members serve by focusing on mentoring, small group tutoring, extracurricular activities, and food insecurity.

Conserving Carolina: Project Conserve
AmeriCorps members service with local organizations working to protect the unique natural resources of the southern Blue Ridge Mountain region. Members educate and involve local communities in addressing critical conservation issues through capacity building, community resilience, outreach and education, volunteer recruitment / coordination, and direct support of conservation initiatives, including habitat restoration, trail creation and improvement, land management, river clean-ups, and water quality monitoring.

AmeriCorps members complete challenging and impactful conservation service projects across the state. Project work includes trail construction and maintenance, habitat improvement, ecological restoration, and disaster recovery to support communities and public lands.

AmeriCorps members serve as college advisors in central North Carolina high schools to assist first-generation and underserved students on their path to pursue a higher education. Program also has members serving through Advise NC at UNC-Wilmington.

Duke NC Literacy Corps
AmeriCorps members address the capacity-building needs of education nonprofits through service activities focused on volunteer management, developing new programs to expand outreach, systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness, conducting research, mapping community assets, developing new partnerships, and sustaining current programs through direct service.

Pamlico Rose Institute Wellness Corps
The mission of Pamlico Rose Institute is to promote healthy living among underserved populations in North Carolina through hands-on, integrated, community-focused initiatives. AmeriCorps Wellness Corps members will support wellness programs at community gardens, schools, transitional housing, and therapeutic farms—where they provide critical support in garden operations, programming, volunteer engagement, and outreach. The program will also transform outdoor spaces into ecosystems of wellness and cultivate whole-person wellness through hands-on nature-based learning.

Carolina College Advising Corps
AmeriCorps members serve to increase the number of first-generation and minority high school students entering and completing higher education. Members are placed in underserved high schools to help students navigate college admissions and financial-aid requirements.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro: AmeriCorps ACCESS Project
AmeriCorps members help immigrant and refugee families integrate into life in North Carolina by providing employment readiness, job placement, case management, ESOL instruction, K–12 education support, and other wraparound services. They also strengthen support for students and families by recruiting and managing volunteers.

Advise NC at NC State
Advise NC at NC State aims to increase opportunities for students in rural North Carolina by making education and training beyond high school more accessible. The program does this by developing recently graduated service-minded leaders, and placing them as full-time AmeriCorps Next Step Advisers in select high-need rural public schools across North Carolina. AmeriCorps Next Step Advisers partner with school staff and community partners to promote a college-going culture in their service communities.
