Gastonia woman charged with insurance fraud

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Diamon Diantria Rollinson, 31, of 3213 Forest Creek Court, Gastonia. Rollinson was charged with three counts of insurance fraud, all felonies, and one misdemeanor count of making a false statement on an insurance application.

Commissioner Causey to present Heroism Awards during visit to Columbus County Monday

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present two Heroism awards during a trip to Columbus County on Monday, Feb. 27.

At the Chadbourn Town Hall, Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will present two Heroism Awards to individuals for actions taken to save lives during fires.

The media is invited to attend and cover these events.

N.C. Rate Bureau requests 28.4 percent rate increase for auto insurance

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that the North Carolina Rate Bureau has submitted a rate filing with the N.C. Department of Insurance, requesting an increase for auto policies.

In the filing, the bureau has requested an overall average statewide increase in private passenger auto insurance rates of 28.4 percent, which would become effective on October 1, 2023.

Telemedicine Program Launched to Increase Access to Lifesaving COVID-19 Treatments

People who test positive for COVID-19, particularly those who are uninsured or don’t have a primary care doctor, will have better access to treatments thanks to a time-limited telemedicine program launched by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with StarMed Healthcare. After a positive test, early treatment is key to avoiding severe illness and hospitalizations, and treatment may even reduce complications from post-COVID conditions, also called long COVID.

Updated COVID-19 Vaccine Dose Available for Kids 6 months to 4 years

Most children 6 months to 4 years are now eligible for their updated COVID-19 vaccine, which protects against COVID-19 variants. These vaccine doses are becoming available in North Carolina this week following the Food and Drug Administration’s emergency use authorization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation.

NCDOL Releases Workplace Fatality Count for 2022

Struck-by incidents and falls from elevation caused the largest number of non COVID-19 work-related deaths last year in the Tar Heel state, based on preliminary information released today by the N.C. Department of Labor (NCDOL). The department’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division inspected 63 non COVID-19 work-related fatalities that occurred in 2022.
